Patch Management Metadata - Display Checked

It is difficult to see what is checked and unchecked in long list of vendors, exceeding now 2,000 items.

For Symantec it must be piece of cake to add two more controls, to see ALL CHECKED - and vice versa.

I am sure all Patch Admins would appreciate that:

Server report showing server details, os, IP's etc.

I need a solution

Hi,

I need to do a report on Altiris 7.5 showing servers details. I need see the server name, software installed including OS, server IP's. I unable to find any reports that will do this. Is there a report already created for server that I can't find or do we have to run a custom report.

I have tried using Cubes but this shows outdated info, even after running cube processing and doesn't have all the options I am after. I would have thought that there should be a report for this already as would assume this is something regually asked for by management.

Ok I had a report that worked just fine in CMS 7.1 but now in 7.5 SP1 HF5 we noticed the report works but is missing some information.

Here is where it gets confusing.

1. Report Runs

2. missing client date for a specific computer (not all of them)

3. code runs in SQL Studio

4. if I Edit Altiris report and just try to save I get errors where it says you cannot create, delete so I look through and I have

t0.[CreatedDate] AS 'CMS Created Date'

i delete this line and my computer now has the correct client date listed. and I can save the report. I added the line back and changed the Created to Installed and now I can save the report and it works.

So my question:

What changed where you cannot use Create in '' to rename the column?

Is there a better approach now?

Why would Altiris report not take what is inside '' and treat it as text?

  • Support for OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Symantec Management Agent and solution plug-ins can be installed on OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

Possible to send plain text email alerts?

I need a solution

My organization is now blocking .css files.  I noticed we were virus free for a few months now.  Then I realized I wasn't getting client change notifications.  Those have .css files attached.   The weekly report is .mht  which is also blocked.

For virus and client emails, is there a setting in SEPM to get just a plain text email instead?  My organization didn't budge on the .mht file blocking so I doubt they'll bother with .css attachments either.  

We're getting zero alerts now essentially from SEPM.  No idication that anything's wrong or changed.  I tested with eicar and confirmed it and discovered it was a .css attachment.

The only workaround I'm thinking of is to use something like blat.  I see in the notifications section that an event can trigger a batch file.  I could have it trigger a batch file that uses blat to send an email.  I'm not thinking of a way to include any details in the email though, but it would get someone's attention that something happened.  That sounds pretty hacky as a workaround though.

In Symantec Workflow Solution 7.5...

When I publish a "Decision" workflow as an EXE file and run it, by default it invokes all of the models in the project. Is there a flag/switch I can use to invoke only a specific model name within the project?

Using the REST Generator (Response Content) in Workflow 7.6

In this Article I will explain how to use the REST Generator (Response Content) within Workflow 7.6.

Other articles

New to me with build Symantec.Workflow.Setup.7.6.4383.504 the REST Generator has been updated to generate Response Content in a third manner - "Create From Sample".
7.6.4383.479 was the first build to have this
With Response Content there were two ways to create the Data Type you need to work with.
  • Create Manually
  • Create From Request
Create Manually was a lot of work but was handy when the Generator can't authenticate against the API or you used a method that wasn't possible.
 
The Create From Request is the easiest as it does it all for you.
 
There is a new one
  • Create From Sample

Patch Management Settings and Reports

I have collected several useful reports, which are not available out-of-box, but could help you to maintain Patch Configuration in your environment.

Reports are from several contributors and KB articles referred later.

I have attached XML from which you can import reports into your SMP console:

Metadata section does not have any export or print option, so it is difficult to monitor currently enabled vendors and products.

PMImport Failures and automated notifications

There is no reason to run PMImport daily, if you have agreed monthly patching. You may configure that task to run weekly, for instance.

It is important to know if that fails, but it can be only viewed in Metadata > Task settings page.

Vendors and products with Bulletin Info

Over time we may have many vendors and products enabled, with data still present in CMDB.

(Those currently enabled are shown in report described above.)

Data will stay in database, until we delete them using this option:

Until we perform that, below report would list all bulletins we have ever enabled and downloaded in the past. Currently enabled ones will show after next PMImport execution.

Distribute Image Task with Multicast fails to Image

I need a solution

I have been working on getting our new ghost server set up using GSS 3.0 HF3, and have run into difficulty distributing our image using multicast.

When  I distribute the image without the multicast option selected on the options screen for a task, the image deploys to the desired machines with no problem...but it seems that this puts more load on the server than need be so I would like to get the multicast working.

If I select either of the multicast options (session or peer-to-peer) the computers restart into automation, but then exit out of the ghost client after a minute or so and reboot back into windows.  The computer displays the DAgent Service window, but it never opens ghost64.exe to attempt to connect to the cast session.

I thought this might be related to a new switch we had recently installed, so I manually set up a ghostcast session and joined each machine to it manually through a ghost boot usb.  The ghostcast worked as intended and imaged the machines on the cast.  So it shouldnt be a problem with our network setup blocking multicast or anything like that.  It must be a configuration problem on either the server or client, but I am not sure what to look for at this point.

Any thoughts or ideas on my problem, or has anyone else run into something similar?

Software Deployment via GSS?

I need a solution

Can anyone explain to me how i can deploy software using GSS 3.0? 

To my understanding this is indeed something that can be done, however most info i find is dated. 

I know there is PC transplant which would work well if a PC in the environment goes down, however i'm more concerned atm about new PC's going out to production. Atm we use several images for various different departments. I'm hoping to cut back on this and use one standard blank image. Once a blank image has been sent to a PC, i could then hopefully assign this PC a job (or several jobs) for different software needed for the specific department the PC is going to.

My end goal workflow would simply be, Unbox PC > image PC > send jobs for software install via GSS > deploy. 

Is this possible?

I appreciate any help/advise.

Discover virtual vCenter Server also as virtual machine and not as host

Right now, a virtual vCenter Server is discovered as a normal host, because in Altiris, a Virtual Manager cannot be a virtual machine [By Design in Altiris].

VMWare recommends to install a vCenter Server as a virtual machine and for our internal automated jobs, it would be great if a vCenter Server would be discovered as a virtual machine.

We need to add WinPE 5.1 to our existing Deployment Server 6.9 SP6 environment because of new Dell 8.1 driver requirements. We are currently using both the legacy 2.1 and WinPE 4.0 images. Can this be done? We have not yet moved to Ghost Solution Suite.

Windows boot times to agent startup and new reports

Out-of-the-box inventory doesn´t pick up Windows workstation boot times(main boot time, post boot time, total boot time,....) from operating system. I made the custom inventory for this and I made the powershell script which should add values. Operation works if I just ran it through as a task. But as this is something which needs to be scheduled always when computer start´s up. I created the Managed Delivery policy which ran task after computer startup which is actually 15 minutes after agent has started up, but task never go through eventhought I click it separately. Is this kind of thing even possible to do with the task in the Software delivery side? If not how we can get this functionality to product as it is very good meter of the machine healthy? Especially on machine change schedules, you could look this kind of report and see which machine is not performing as well it should.
