Report of operators currently running SMP Console

I need a solution

It would be great to know about operators (Symantec Administrators) currently connected to SMP server via remote SMP Console from local browser.

When performing SMP Upgrade or Reconfiguration, I am usually checking if anyone is connected in other RDP session on that server.

I do not verify if anyone is still working on that server remotely, but it may cause impact in two ways:

  1. Some files may not be properly updated on server, since these might be in use (locked) by remotely connected operator
  2. Operator's work may be affected, if SMP server or services are restarted in middle of doing something

I wonder to know if SMP server is "aware" of current activities from SMP consoles, and report can be created to list for instance:

  • Who is connected (user name)
  • From where us connected (machine name)
  • How long is connected (duration or date/time from)
  • What he is doing (in which console page he works)
  • Role of that user (full rights, read only, etc.)

Does anyone know, please?

Unable to upload data to cases at my.symantec.com

I need a solution

It seems like the portal backend changed at some point in the last few weeks, and I no longer have the option to add attachments to cases (add attachment button is gone now).  I can click on upload data which produces an error "Upload Error: An error occurred while user provisioning." If I click Ok on the error I can login to a site "Symantec Secure File Transfer" where I can login, but it doesn't list cases for me to attach files to.

This is pretty frustrating to have to login to a 2nd portal to upload a file to a case.  I tried asking for help with it on an existing case, but the agent closed the case without helping with the issue or responding to my question.   That is even more frustrating.

I am calling into general support now to try to get some help with this.  She is telling me I'll no longer be able to attach logs to cases, and I'll have to go to a separate ftp site to do the uploads and the tech assigned to the case will have to help me with that.  

Symantec has come a long way with support in the last few years, but this is an example where I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall on something that should be simple.  I put in patch tickets somewhat regularly with attachments (that are too big to email and/or end in attachments we block on email).  Making this process harder on the customer is unfortunate.

Would love any advice if there is still a relatively easy way for customers to upload data to cases.

Remote Tool Integration within Console

I need a solution

I was going to integrate the Bomgar Jump client right click action into my production console and I realized it doesn't have Settings > Console > Remote Tool Integration. My lab which has been through more HotFix iterations has it. I don't recall doing anything to make that show up. Does anyone know why that option would be missing on my 7.6 -> HF7 server?

Blue screen and error message on Windows 10

My user encounter BSOD on Windows 10. Currently we are using Symantec Endpoint Protection on cloud. When I check, it has an error that has something to do with Symantec cloud. Please advise.

Network switches in a single view

How do I get a list of 'Network switches' in a single view? (And routers, and other network devices)

I have the following scenario (as a close example):

300 switches total

  • 100 are discovered with IP address only and show as 'Network Resource'
  • 100 are discovered with IP addres, and name, and show as 'Network Resource'
  • 100 are discovered with IP addres, and name, some SNMP info and show as 'Infrastructure Resource'

It seems to me from reading various Symantec documents that it is not possible to change the 'Resource Type' to anything you like? This seems astonishing given how much easier it would make it to manage the asset portfolio e.g. right click on any asset and select a 'Resource Type' (but that's all too easy, and just crazy talk :P

I thought I would try importing using CMDB solution, but that just creates duplicate entries, and will rediscover any entries I delete e.g. If I create Router1 I will end up with two instances of it, and I can't merge either! Also some switches show up multiple times, if they have multiple mac addresses

I can't tell easily through any report what my list of switches is? I can use the 'All Assets', or 'Assets folder reports in 'service & Asset Managment', but I can't easily tell one device from another? This is because I see 2000 or more devices in that list, and I see duplicates, and I can't see anything more granular than 'Infrstructure Device' or 'Network Resource'

How do I easily solve this issue please?!

ATTEMPT ONE: 

I thought I had the answer by creating a custom dataclass and linking it to 'Infrastructure Device, or 'Network Resource' - yay you clever man I said to myself proudly I won't have to care about how they are classified OOB - but dammit, I can't figure out how to show it in a report using the 'Report Builder Wizard' - see screen shot.

ATTEMPT TWO:

I then thought I would try creating a custom resource type' of 'Switch' but again stuck on not being able to report easily, and then again the issue of duplicates

Help please! This is driving me mad!

PS. The Symantec reports for Switches, and Routers, are completely useless; and the out of box filter for SNMP devices is a little better but still krap! ...I ain't gunna cry though!

Database deadlock

I need a solution

Running a server-side job I get a popup:

Database error:

Transaction (Process ID 67) was deadlocked on lock resources with

another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the

transaction.

If I click on retry the console stops. However, the job still executes succesfully.

Any help appreciated.

Popup appears after clicking “Save Changes” with Patch or SWMgmt Policies

We would like to submit an enhancement request for the process of creating or editing Software Management and Patch Management policies.  We would like to have a popup that appears on screen after one clicks “Save Changes” that would list the major settings of the policy for confirmation. These settings would include the filter/target, the schedule, the software or task name and command line, and any other pertinent information. 

This popup would help immensely with ensuring that the correct settings are in place before pushing software out to potentially thousands of client computers, thus helping avoid costly mistakes.

Managed Software Delivery Policy history or logs?

I need a solution

Is it possible to view the logs on a manged software delivery policy (without building a custom SQL report)?

Like X policy ran on these 60 computers today, and it was successful on 58 of them and failed on 2, where ideally I could click on the 2 failures and see some info on what happened?

Right now, the best indication I have that the policy is doing what I want is watching the filter the policy is applied to (Computer Doesn't have X software) decrease.  I realized about 50 computers have not been installing properly, and they are machines I can't connect via RAAD to for network reasons, so I'd love to get some more info in the web interface.
 

I'm 7.5.1 right now, looking to upgrade to 7.6.x in next few weeks.

Can't choose WinPE (32 bit)

I need a solution

I have installed WinPE 5.X (x86) in the Boot Disk Creator and it's status is showing up as installed under the boot disk creator but when I try to use the x86 version when creating tasks in the System Console the only options are to use Auto Select or the 64 bit version.

I tried using Auto Select on an x86 machine and it still attempted to use the x64 WinPE version before failing. Is there something else I need to do to get the x86 version to show up on the drop down list?

Partition disk task status error

Can anyone help me determine why my disk partition task is failing?

Partition disk task status : (Exit code 2)
ErrorMessage: Exception has occured in File Tcube_ClientPartitionDisk.cpp at Line No 923. Type of exception is ClientPartitionDiskException. Error Description is Child Process returned an error. The exit code from process is 2. Value of Windows error code = 0 and message is The operation completed successfully.

I'm using the following process:

Run 'Reboot to WinPE5.1 x64 --- I have tried x86 as well

Run Erase Disk

Run Partition C:

Within PE I can run gdisk32.exe 1 /status and it shows:

1. The disk is there

2. The first partition is there, Active, NTFS, 353MB

3. There is no second partition. See attached logfile.

I need a solution

I just upgraded to 7.6 HF7, and I'm running into the following problems:

- Inventory isn't working. The SMA gives me this:

- Several agent/plugin pages in the console are giving me this:

- An attempt to list the computers that should be getting SMA updates gives me this:

Altiris 7.1 Web Console Opening Blank

Hello,

We have been running Altiris 7.1 for some time now.  Today I've been having an issue where I can't open up the Management Console from a remote system or on the server itself at http://localhost/Altiris/Console/.  In IE i see a Waiting on the tab with a spinning circle but never opens up.  If I restart the server it will work again on the server.  But after some time it will act the same way.  I've seen this before but it would just happen once and a reboot would have it working for months.  Not sure what the issue could be now.  Is there a service I could try restarting?  Our setup is as follows.

1 Notification Server

1 Site Server

1 SQL Server

Hello,

SMC 7.5 HF5 Creating new Database Fails

Hi

Looking for assistance, runnnig SMC 7.5 HF5 and under SMC->Database Settings->Database Name, If I click on create new database, and save, it goes through the Database configuration, restarting services, then configuring database 0%, then I get "an error occured during database Configuration" error while configuring database. I can see on the SQL server the DB has been created, if I then try and select database form the SMC use existing database dropdown, and click save changed, I then get the message "the database needs to be upgraded" message, hit okay and immediately get the mesage "failed to query the selected database version", can anyome assist?.

PS, the SMC notification Server settings server processing, Application Identity uses the same account on the SQL server and this account is the DBO and local admin on both the Notification and SQL server. the NS server is Windows 2008R2 and SQL server is SQL 2008 R2 SP3.

I need a solution

I have a system running Windows Vista I need to restore. I have a .v21 which is 9.7Gb and a .sv21 which is 3kb both created in 2010. I do not have the Ghost software as I didnt do the backup. Which version of Ghost do I need to purchase to restore the HD?
